Nkwazi Ridge Estate Holiday Homes: Zinkwazi Beach’s Secure Estate, Explained

A holiday home on Nkwazi Ridge Estate in Zinkwazi Beach with its lawn and the estate greenery behind

Ask us for a family holiday home in Zinkwazi Beach with a gate, a lawn and a pool the small ones cannot fall into, and the conversation usually ends up at Nkwazi Ridge Estate. It is a security estate inside the village at 12 Nkwazi Drive, and we let four of its houses, every one of them sleeping between eight and fourteen.

This guide is the honest version of the estate: what the gate, the estate pool, the tennis court and the clubhouse actually give you, what you give up compared with a beachfront house, and which of the four homes fits which kind of family. Every fact comes from the property pages themselves.

Below is what the four property pages say about the estate, gathered into one place and, more usefully, turned into advice about which family belongs in which house.

Nkwazi Ridge Estate is at 12 Nkwazi Drive in Zinkwazi Beach. It is a security estate: access is controlled at the gate around the clock, the homes share an estate pool, a tennis court and a clubhouse, and all four listings describe the garden as ideal for children and games. None of them is a cottage: the smallest, 365 Nkwazi Ridge Estate, sleeps eight.

What the estate is not is beachfront. That is the trade-off in one sentence. Our guide to what beachfront means in Zinkwazi explains the positions in the village; the estate homes are a drive or a walk from the sand rather than on it, and only The Royal Familia Beach House lists sea views. If waking up to the surf is the whole point of the trip, book on the beach. If the point is that the children can roam behind a gate while the adults sit down, read on.

Here are all four Nkwazi Ridge Estate holiday homes we let, largest first. Sleeps, bedrooms and bathrooms are as listed on each property page, and the backup-power column repeats the page wording so nothing is oversold. Every name links to the home.

Every one of the four has Wi-Fi and a braai, and every one of them says no to pets, so if a dog is part of the family the pet-friendly homes guide is where to look instead. All four list access control with 24-hour guards. Servicing differs: 365 Nkwazi Ridge Estate is listed as fully serviced, while A Peaceful Place and The Royal Familia Beach House are not serviced, and cleaning staff can be arranged on request. The other differences are size, air conditioning and which kind of DSTV you get.

The gate does not mean a generator. Of the four estate homes, only 365 Nkwazi Ridge Estate lists an inverter. People assume a security estate comes with backup power, and it is the assumption we correct most often.

Secure estate accommodation in Zinkwazi suits three kinds of group. Families with small children, because the gate, the lawns and the fenced-and-gated estate pool take the edge off a week of watching toddlers; our family holidays guide covers the rest of that week. Big multi-generational groups, because two of the homes take fourteen and have the bathrooms to match, which is rarer than it sounds; the large group accommodation guide compares them with the beachfront houses of the same size. And anyone who wants a tennis court and a clubhouse at the end of the driveway.

It suits two kinds of group less well. Anyone who measures a beach holiday in steps to the water, and anyone travelling with a pet. Neither is a criticism of the estate; it is simply what the property pages say, and we would rather you chose with your eyes open.

From the estate you head down Nkwazi Drive to Main Beach, the lifeguarded beach in season, and use the beach car park; the property pages note that early-bird space only, which in December means going down before the day-trippers. A Peaceful Place has its own shortcut, stairs from Glen Drive to the beach entrance. The lagoon, the Ski-Boat Club, the café, Lagoon Lodge and the convenience store are all in the village below; our Zinkwazi Beach local guide lists them, and the things to do in Zinkwazi Beach guide fills the days.

Two practical notes. Ask us about the gate procedure when you book, so arrivals after dark and visiting family are expected. And because only one estate home has an inverter, read our guide to load-shedding-ready holiday homes if backup power matters; Eskom’s power system status page is the place to check before you travel.

Tell us your dates, how many adults and how many small children, and whether the tennis court or the sea view matters more, and we’ll say honestly which estate home fits.

Under about six, the fenced-and-gated estate pool and the lawns are the reason to be here. Teenagers will want the tennis court, the Wi-Fi and a lift to the beach.

365 Nkwazi Ridge Estate is en-suite throughout and A Peaceful Place has six bedrooms and six bathrooms; The Royal Familia Beach House has seven bedrooms and five bathrooms. Count the bathrooms before the bedrooms.
